Chasing the Open Sky

Chasing the Open Sky

I woke up early, eager to get out and explore. The weather was perfect—clear blue skies and a light breeze. I grabbed my Canon EOS R5 and a 24-70mm lens, hoping to make the most of the daylight. Setting out to a nearby grassland, I could feel the anticipation bubbling inside me. When I arrived, I was struck by how open everything felt. The field stretched endlessly under the azure sky, dotted with fluffy white clouds. I took a few test shots, adjusting my settings to f/8 and ISO 200. The light was just right, and I was excited to see how the photos would turn out. Suddenly, I spotted a deer in the distance. I froze, heart racing, trying to keep the camera steady. But as I raised my lens, the deer bolted. Typical, right? After a bit of waiting, I decided to shift my focus back to the landscape.

I found a small hill that overlooked the field. The view was calming, and I snapped a few photos of the grass swaying in the wind against the backdrop of that vibrant sky. I felt a sense of freedom in that moment. It reminded me of how deer can travel up to 30 miles a day in search of food and safety, always on the move. By the end of the day, I had a collection of images that captured the essence of the open field. Each shot told a little story of the day I spent there, and I felt grateful for those simple moments. Being out there, just me and nature, is something I cherish deeply. Learn more about open fields and the wildlife that inhabit them.
